During 1939, brick and concrete air raid shelters were built in the playground of Oldswindford C of E School. It would seem that there was not enough room in the shelter fro the whole school so those who lived nearby had to run home!

I remember being timed to do this run home. This was done by me having to run to my front door, touching it and running straight back to school. Luckily I didn鈥檛 have to do this for real during the whole of the war. I was only seven!
