Clydebank got it first. Germans came up the Clyde surveying the shipping. People took to the hills.
My brother was friendly with Archie Millar, a farmer, and it was to his farm we all went. My brother wakened Archie up and he took us all in. He made us tea with aspirin in it. I think this was to settle or nerves. We were up at Archie鈥檚 for over four hours, then the All Clear went.
After the bombing everyone was desperate to go down to their homes to see what was still standing. We were fortunate - we only had our bathroom windows blown in. The property at the bottom of Garvald Street wasn鈥檛 so lucky - it came down soon after the bombing. Everyone helped each other. There was a great comradeship amongst everyone.
