Jill M and I went to the same high school on Streatham Hill. We both sat for the entrance exam together. We used to visit each other for tea and so on. One day when I was off school because of the Buzz bombs I trundled off on my tricycle (which must have been a funny sight as I had grown a lot since it was bought for me before the War!).
I arrived outside her house only to see NO HOUSE!!! I was in shock and rushed back on my trike and went straight into our garage converted into shelter and lay on my bunk....
My mum took me around to the house and the Air raid Warden and asked after the family. I was told that they'd been in the air shelter and were quite safe. However I never saw or heard from her or her family again.
I do hope they did escape .
