I got married the year before the war. Then in 1940 my wife was having a baby, and I got sent to the middle east.As I was in the raf , I drove a staff car in Beruit.Then I was put in charge of the officers mess. The unit was then transfered from Palestine to Gaza.I was there for a year then I went to Syria.There were lots of swamp's where mosqitoes bred, so you had to be careful of malaria. I was then put in charge of some local people, who were trying to dig a canal through the swamps.A officer would come every fortnight to bring rations, and check progress.
