I was in the ATS, stationed at Penarth. I worked on the ackack batteries in the territorial unit.
I was a height finder. The men operated the guns, and we gave the instructions. You would shout "plane" when one was spotted. That was in the day. At night you would go to the plotting room. Dressed in whatever you could grab when the alert was sounded.
I operated a plotting machine.
On VE Day I marched through Reading in candlelight. I remember feeling sort of sad, I don't know why.
After the war, once the battery was disbanded, we weren't de-mobbed. I went into the pay corp, and met my husband who was a prisoner of war.
