During a bombing raid the picture on the bedroom wall rattled and swung out.
I said to mum "Are you afraid?" she said "No, I'm just cold".
As I grew older I realised she had been shaking with fear.
We lived so near the sea and the Portland Naval base we were fortunate to have escaped the bombing that night.
We could have gone into the air raid shelter in the local Brewery at the bottom of the hill, but my grandmother wouldn't shift out of the house!
