This story was submitted to the People鈥檚 War site by Kathy Tutt, a volunteer from 大象传媒 Kent on behalf of Marlis Pratt and has been added to the site with her permission. Mrs Pratt fully understands the site鈥檚 terms and conditions.

It was 1943 and I was 15 years old. My family were living in Wuppertal, Germany where I was born. Air raids were increasing and our house was hit by what seemed to be the last of the incendiary bombs that night. As the house burnt down we ran for shelter to a small park across the road. We left just we were, taking nothing with us, as we had promised my father who was stationed in Holland with the Luftwaffe.

The loss of my treasured photo album and a half-finished jumper in an intricate pattern upset me more than anything else - I was, after all, 15 !
