12 May posted RAF Honington Suffolk on operations with No.9 Wellington Squadron Night Bombers _ 2nd Pilot to Flight Commander Sqn. Ldr George Peacock. First op. to Duisberg Marshalling Yards @ 10,000 ft Five operations at low level over Belgiuim and North France attacking Wehrmacht transport and communications
5 June Target Duisberg Marshalling Yards. After crosing Dutch Coast on way to target at 10,000 ft. caught in searchlight cone and shot down in flames by heavy flak, port engine on fire and George Peacock gave order to abandon aircraft Five crew bailed out but the aircrat blew up and Peacock was killed before he could get out. I walked all night with the object of acquiring a boat of some sort and getting back to England but got caught in the morning.
