I was a civilian working on the forts off the coast of Kent 1943-1944 for 9 months. My father was sergeant gunner on G1 FORT. I was involved in the loading of the guns during action stations, otherwise I was painting the outside of the fort battleship grey. It was amazing that I was allowed to perform alongside my father in action at the age of 15.
Fishing was the pastime everybody did to get fresh food as often the supply boats could not get to us because of bad weather or other reasons.
