I was 17 years old and working as a nurse at a childrens hospital.
The sister dashed in and said the Germans had gone into Poland.
The children were evacuated immediately.
I went to the hospital in Kent.
All the casualities would come in - 240 wounded from Dunkirk.
Many lost their legs and we didn't have the drugs we have these days.
I worked as a nurse until 1941 and then resigned and went home and joined the Airforce.
