There were long tables in the street for the VE and VJ street parties, we had jelly and custard. This was wonderful.
Also there was canned fruit and fish paste sandwiches.
We never really went short due to my father being in a bakery.
The cheese and bacon was cut up.
Sugar was weighed up.
Me and my sister did the points in the books (ration books).
We counted the points and took them to the food office at the top of Churchgate (now near to the Clock Tower in Leicester City Centre).
They had to balance. They were points for different things.
We had to decide on what sweets to get each month.
My sister liked liquorish. Sometimes we would chose rolos, fruit drops, our choices were always different.
