We had been watching rugby on King's School field - we walked into town. As we approached the Central Cinema, a German aircraft which had just dropped two bombs on the A1 bridge of the railway route King's Cross to Ediburgh line - came down the High Street firing its machine guns. Luckily we could dive into the cinema entrance, therefore avoiding any injury. It was very scary.
