This story was submitted to the People's War site by a volunteer from CSV / 大象传媒 Radio Nottingham on behalf of Stewart Willis and has been added to the site with his permission. The author fully understands the site's terms and conditions.

I was on the Empire Morn, a cargo ship carrying supplies to Murmansk. We carried all sorts of supplies. The idea was that if a cargo ship was sunk then not everything was lost, as there were other ships also carrying a range of goods.
When we arrived at Murmansk, german ships blocked our exit. We were stranded there for six months. The Graf Spey / Sharnforce prevented us from leaving as they were outside Murmansk waiting for us. They couldn't come into the port because they would have been got by the British. We were very frightened.
We had enough food and so didn't go hungry. While we were waiting they kept us busy scrubbing decks and polishing brass and other such tasks.
Then a British battleship came to our aid. I can't remember the name of the battleship, but it brought reinforcements in quickly, including aircraft from the ship.
We then sailed back home safely.
