I was born in 1938 so my memories of the war are those of a child. Apart from the fun of having inter-connecting cellars for use in air-raids my two main memories are
1. My introduction to the Police force when the local Bobby called to tell us we had an un-exploded bomb in thr front garden. We wanted to invite our friends round to see it but we weren't allowed!.
and secondly,
2 At the top of our road was a barrage balloon station. One day, whilst a few of us were playing in our back yard a balloon collapsed into our back yard. My
memory is one of being very popular with the local kids whilst my mother was terrified.
