My grandmother was 9 years old when the war started and she always finds pleasure in telling people her personal experiences of the war. The one thing that has stood out in my mind about her stories is the rationing that was involved.
My grandmother was 1 of 8 which made things very difficult for her and her family. Once her mother had come home from work and she had managed to save up each week for a mars bar. In order to share this mars bar out properly, she had to divide it into 8 smalll pieces for everyone to have their share. You can just imagine how small her peice was having to share it with 7 other people!
Simple stories like this give us a reflection of how much of a struggle the war was, and how seroiusly people took rationing.
