The ocean liner "Aquitana" shipped us from Liverpool to Halifax in Canada in the Autumn of 1943 where after 4 years of Blackout and Blitz, we saw the whole coastline ablaze with electric lights. Everyone came to the upper decks and this sight created a wave of spontaneous emotion by bursting into patriotic songs such as "Land of Hope and Glory", "Rule Britannia" and the National Anthem, such as the audience rendered on the last night of the Proms at the Albert Hall. An unforgettable experience!
