This story was submitted to the People's Was website by Karolina Kopiec from the 大象传媒 GMR Action Desk on behalf of Ms Rebecca Tarran and Mr Arthur Fairbrother and has been added to the site with their permission. The author fully understands website's terms and conditions.

Arthur Fairbrother was mentioned in dispatches for general conduct as a warrant officer. They encamped by the side of the river. In the evening a battalion of American soldiers joined them. Beacause it was drark and nobody had told the Americans about the river they all fell in, much to the amusement of his comrades.

His mother thought it would be a good idea to send him some dates whilst he stationed in North Africa, not realising that he was surrounded by them. She had saved up her coupon to do this.
