This story was submitted to the People's War Site by Margaret Walsh of The Royal Star and Garter Home on behalf of John Nunn and has been added to the site with his permission. The author fully understands the site's terms and conditions.

I joined the army in 1936 aged 15. I went through France, Italy, Egypt. I served 18 years in all. I spent most of the war lecturing on engineering - mainly the construction of bridges. I was married in Elsin in 1942.
I got 12 medals, but it was just a question of being in the right place at the right time.
