I was evacuated with my aunt. We went north and stopped in Sheffield overnight. We were billeted in the Sheffield Royal Infirmary. I was always a good mimic and could mimic a siren perfectly. I was nearly 5 years old by this time and in the still of the night being awake with nothing to do, I performed a beautiful imitation of the siren. The effect on the adult evacuees was electrifying. They ran about in a panic. Many ran for the shelters. I got a right thrashing for that.
