Two little anecdotes from my father David of growing in WW2. My father was born in April 1940 so he was very young at the time but always recalls two things, firstly, picking up shrapnel, putting it in a bucket and trying to sell it and also one fantastic story about being in the outside loo at the bottom of the garden when a doodlebug landed in his street. Apparently the 'lav' collapsed around him leaving him sat in the open at the bottom of the garden with the destoyed toilet all around him.
