I was evacuated in 1940 when Holland was invaded.I had passed the scholarship in 1939 and the whole school went to Redditch in the Midlands. My friend and I were with a nice family who had just moved from Coventry . We shared with the technical school and during raids as we had no shelter we had to sit on the pipes under the windows, the theory was any shattered glass would blow over our heads. We were there during the bombing of the Midlands and then came back to Felixstowe which was full of soldiers.
I kept in touch with the family I had stayed with and they visited after the birth of my first girl.
