My Grandad (on my Mum's side) in WW2 was a medical student at Great Ormand Street Hospital in London. He helped to carry out blood tranfusions and helped in the casualty department. He remembered a lot of bombing at this time.
My Granny (on my Mum's side) was also a medical student in Edinburugh, Scotland, she also helped on the Casualty Department, but she says that there was hardly any bombing.
My other Grandad (o my Dad's side? was a miner in Dearham, Cumbria, so he wasn't allowed to go to fight as the coal was too important.
