Staffs County Council libraries, on behalf of the author, have submitted this story. The author fully understands the rules and regulations of the People's War website.

At the time of the war, I'd be about five years old. I remember going to the 'threepenny rush' at the local cinema, the Roxy at Silverdale, one Saturday morning. During the showing of the serial called ' The Scarlet Horseman', suddenly the air-raid sirens sounded. Hundreds of kids just ran out through the emergency exits (you would never believe how fast a cinema could empty!!) When we all got home we just stood and watched the bombers going over - we never even went into the air-raid shelters!
