During rationing my Mother would buy 4d of bones (these were not counted as 鈥榬ation鈥�) and stew them, then pick the meat off the bones, add various vegetables and make a pie which would feed four of us. She also made quite a successful sponge cake using liquid paraffin as the fat ingredient.

We were allocated one egg per person per week and whilst my father, sister and I ate ours to ourselves she made an egg custard with hers which also fed four people.
At Christmas time 鈥榩oints鈥� were stored so that we could get dried fruit for Christmas cake. No almonds were available so we made marzipan with soya flour and almond essence.
