There were a lot of laughs. One day a little boy bounced into the room yelling
鈥 Nurse me trousers is gone!鈥
鈥 Where?鈥
鈥 I dropped 鈥榚m in the lavvy and pulled the chain and they鈥檙e gone.鈥
A mortified young man had to wear nursery trousers that day. Another day there was a lively discussion about 鈥淎y yer gonna 鈥榓ve a baff or a barf鈥 鈥 it depended on which nurse was doing the job!
Birthdays and Christmas were celebrated and events at home were constant news. We even had to make gravy to go with fish, when they were doubtful about white sauce.
At Christmas we made all the decorations and pictures. Each child had one useful present, eg small cloves and one toy present, all made by us out of what materials we could find. We managed a party and Father Christmas.
There were no cars, so we all arrived on bikes which were useful to attend lectures which were given in each nursery by the Matron and to get to and from work which could be quite a distance.
