I can鈥檛 ever remember being hungry as my Dad had an allotment and grew all the vegetables we needed. One Christmas we had to have a Rabbit for dinner, but I was told it was chicken as they knew I wouldn鈥檛 have eaten Rabbit! One of my friend鈥檚 fianc茅 was a pilot and was on his last tour of duty. I think it was 38 trips; he got into difficulties and his aircraft came down and he was never traced. We were all upset and I think of the lovely poems he used to write to her and I think of him when watching the Armistice Service.
Clothes were on ration books and we were given coupons, I never had enough and used to buy elderly ladies for 10p a book (25p nowadays).
