This story was submitted to the People's War site by CSV/大象传媒 Radio Nottingham on behalf of Trevor O'Connor with his permission. The author fully understands the site's terms and conditions.

I was the youngest of 7, Irene, Marjory, Jack, Wilfred, Lavender, Trevor. I was born in 1942. I was a whipping block for them all. What I remember most, is the handing down of clothes and that.

We had to do odd little jobs around the house. Never any new clothes or shoes. Whether they fit you or not you had to wear them.
