It was early in the war and i was about 6 or 7 years old. I was walking down an alley way in Rottingdean on my own after having just been playing with friends near by.
The alley was rather enclosed but I could hear raised, panicked voices around me from all sides.
As the alley way emerged out onto the main street I was greeted by the home guard, ARPs and lots of shocked looking people.
A member of the home guard picked me up and rushed out of the alleyway. He asked me what I had been doing there and I told him that I had been playing with friends.
I didn't realise what I had done wrong until I was told that an unexploded bomb had crashed into the alley moments before I had got there. I was very frightened and ran all the way home.
