鈥淩ations were incredible small by today鈥檚 standards. We supplemented by growing vegetables in the garden. I still remember the excitement of cycling to our greengrocers to get an allowance of 1lb of onions on each ration book. Although we were aware of the Black Market, we never bought anything on it.鈥
