I would have been about 14. The germans dropped a load of incendiary bombs in Cross Heath. They were aiming for BSA and BTH - both were making firearms.
BSA had underground chambers where they tested the guns - we could here the boom bom all night long.
A chap called Mr Howard came runningalong the street with a bucket of sand and a spade, wearing a shirt but no trousers. He was dashing along the road with his shirt tails between his legs shouting "Don't come out Mrs!"
One of the incendiaries set fathers greenhouse on fire.
Two brothers named Hancock who lived across the road from us had a bomb drop through the roof and it landed on their bed - between the two of them.
The bed caught alight.. that got them up sharpish !
