I was just over 5 when I saw a stray German bomber drop its load which I said at the time was sticks some friends left me and ran onto school an I saw the explosion at Midland bridge. I was on Ampthill road bridge. Later that day I heard that my great Uncle, who was taking a delivery of coal into town was on the bridge and the horse bolted along Midland road to Silver Street.
