I was a nurse in the medical corp. When we arrived we had to build our medical station ourselves, pitch tents and build defences.

It was a very bloody time for our troops - as the Paratroopers were coming down many were being fired on an injured before they'd even landed. As they came down medics picked them up and brought them straight to the theatre tents. At one point during this terrible time I stayed up for six days and six nights - with no sleep - in order to try to operate on the many soldiers who were coming in to us. We stayed awake by propping ourselves up with bricks, drinking lots and lots of tea.
