I was born in 1944 in Birchington during a bombing raid. Andrew Davis, the conductor was born at the same time a few miles away. We lived with my grandparents and my mum was a children's nurse working right up until I was born.
I was born with a naevus on my leg which was being treated in the Margate hospital. But because we had no transport the local doctor who was on locum said he would treat it. It had to be treated with carbon snow and to be timed very carefully. He put it on my leg and left it there until I screamed. He said "Oh dear, I shouldn't have done that!"
I could never look at him again and still remember what he looked like. I used to cringe when I went past him. Now I have a big scar; it was a three degree burn.
