Letter written by Leslie to his older brother. The letter was returned because his brother became a prisoner of war.
Dated March 24th 1943
Dear L,
I wrote a letter to you about three weeks ago. I hope you received it. At the present moment I am living in hope of hearing from you any day now. I received an air letter and airgraph from E (L's wife) a couple of days ago saying that you were in North Africa. Well I hope we meet each other. Everything is okay with your wife although she is lost without you. Also, at the same time, K (their sister) sent me two air letters. She startled me a bit by saying she got engaged to a chap from Wales. He is twenty-five. Well I wish her the best of happiness, but you cannot write and say you like the chap if you have never seen him can you. Have you seen him L? What is he like? Mam writes and says that everything is okay at home. What am I doing? Oh I am trying to help win this ruddy war. How would I like a bottle of beer? What does it taste like pal. Still I bet you are in the same position. E reckons that you wrote and said this place stinks. I certainly agree with you. Well L I hope you manage to write a letter to me
In the meantime
Cheerio Pal
all the best
Leslie
(P.S. excuse short letter)
Leslie was 22yrs when he wrote this letter.
