This story was submitted to the People's War site by Jenny Newby of Hull City Libraries on behalf of Marjorie Prior to the site with her permission. The author fully understands the site's terms and conditions.

In 1939 Marjorie Prior was a 17 year old student travelling to France for her "gap year" before going to College. Weeks after her arrival, Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain declared Britain at war with Germany. Unable to return to England, she experienced life in France under German occupation and even internment in 1940.
She has written a book about her experiences, called "Two Lemons and Five Lumps of Sugar"
