The City of London Yeomanry (Rough Riders) had been an Anti-Aircraft Regiment before the war equipped with the latest Bofors Guns.
On the commencment of hostilities these guns were taken from them and they found themselves responsible for the air defence of Sheerness in Kent equipped with a World War 1 6 pounder AA gun minus its breach block ! After Dunkirk they were made responsible for the Air defence of Windsor Castle, this consisted of a Bofors gun on a concrete tower on the Brocas at Eton and a Lewis gun in a hedge on The Datchet Road.
One day two members of The Royal Family were walking in the grounds with their dogs when one of the animals got into a tent where two Rough Rider Troopers were sleeping. The snuffling of the dogs brought a stream of army expletives, and, from outside the tent, a voice was heard to say '' Come away Elizabeth, we must not disturb the Lads'' !!
