I remember going shopping down the Gloucester Road to buy goods not available in Filton. I must have been about 4 years and 1 month old. On the way home the bus stopped and everybody was told to get off. The bus conductor hurriedly picked me up, and we ran across Horfield Common to the shelters. I remember seeing many silver planes in the sky as he carried me across. When we eventually reached Filton I remember Station Road covered with mud and shrapnel I now realise that it must have been the day of the raid on Bristol Aeroplane Company which took place on the 25th September 1940.
