July 1. Still sweeping for sub on our own. Keeping defence watch. Kept afternoon last dog and middle. Increased speed at 12pm 26 kts. Arrived in Tobruk at &am. Oiled left at 9am. Kept first dog first.

July 2. Left Tobruk at 9am. Cruising kept first dog first and morning. Had exercises of night encounter. Fired star shell. Made smoke screen speed 20 kts.

July 3. Arrived in Port Said at 8-30. Passed 15 troop ships at 0730. Made fast stern to wall. Oiled. General make and mend. Leave to stbd watch.

July 4. Went ashore to mass to Cathedral at 9am. Came back at 1030. Went ashore at 1-15 went swimming in afternoon, then went to the pictures at?? 45. Had a few drinks at 9-30. Came back at 11pm.

July 5. Left Port Said at 0800 with troopships, about twenty, destroyers 14. kept afternoon in cruising weather rough. Defence during last dog. Object of operation invading Sicily. Kept middle. Passed Alex at 4am.

July 6. Kept forenoon weather still rough. Carlisle came alongside. Had message to give her. Kept first and morning, weather calming down. All quiet during the night.

July 7. Morning watch sea calm. Had blue warning in the afternoon. Recon-over convoy. Zero hour for invasion Sunday 11th midnight.

July 8. Kept forenoon, weather lovely. Wrote letters in the afternoon. Kept first. Six fleet destroyers relieved six Hunts at 8pm. Went 21 kts to Malta.

July 9. Arrived Malta at 0700, oiled. Passed invasion barges in channel. Left at 11am. Joined up with convoy at 5pm, also cruisers, sweepers, every kind of craft. Proceeded to Sicily. 150 gliders passed over at 10pm. Landed fighting began.

July 10. First landing was at 3-30 not much opposition. We kept sweeping. Shore batteries opened up at us, but died down after a while. Picked up air force troops that had crashed. Had first air raid at 4pm, more bombs than that. No ships hit, shot down two. Hospital ship hit at 10pm. Had raid at night.

July 11. Kept morning. Air raid started at 045. Bombs dropped on shore. Action stations. Fell out to defence at 5-30. patrolling off coast all day. Oiled at 7pm. 2 shot down. One sweep at night. Had E boat alarm. Nothing happened.

July 12. went bombarding with Erebus and four cruisers, town was Augustus. Action stations all day. Was attacked by Stuka鈥檚. nothing done. Had raid all during the first. One near miss one man killed by shrapnel. Everyone tired.

July 13. Kept morning. Raid started at 4-30 until daylight. Sweeping off coast all day. Had a few raids, one ship hit. Burial of shipmate at 11am. Took convoy of troopers to Malta at 8pm. One plane shot down during the first. Made smoke screen.

July 14. Arrived in Malta at 0700 port watch required to take ship in. Oiled. Got ammunition onboard. Went to see Michael Cashman on Venisen, had a nice old talk. Went to sea with convoy of empty troopers to Alex. Kept first. Wishart, Witherington, Venimus with us.

July 15. Kept morning. Broke into cruising at 6am. Working forenoon on syren wire. Kept middle on lookout. All quiet.

July 16. 1st stbd. Kept forenoon. Done E.T.I. examination in wardroom. Finished it in afternoon. Kept last dog and middle.

July 17. Cleaned into rig of the day at 6pm. Entered harbour at 6-30pm. Oiled. Went to a buoy. Stbd watch went ashore at 1950 until 0700. I kept sentry from 12pm. 21pm.

July 18. Went ashore to church at St. Francis at 9am. Met Wilf outside church. Went ashore at 1-15 went to pictures saw In Which We Serve. Went up the club saw Wilf and Cotter. Slept in Canal de Suez.

July 19. Painting ships side during forenoon. Flooded dock and went to a buoy at 11am. Leave to stbd watch from 1315 until 2250. Wrote three letters. Had all night in.

July 20. Stbd watch got ship underway. Topped up with oil. Went to sea with convoy of troopers eight altogether at about 9-15. Kept forenoon in defence also first and morning sea calm.

July 21. Kept morning. All quiet during the forenoon. Wrote a letter in the afternoon. Weather freshening. Kept last dog. Had blue warning. Passed Tobruk at about 2-50pm. passed Derna at 8pm. Kept middle.

July 22. Kept forenoon. First and morning. All quiet weather lovely and calm. Clocks went back one hr at 6pm. Changed over at 5-30.

July 23. Kept afternoon and middle. Going to Sicily. Went to dusk action stations at 8-30 until 9-30. All quiet during the night.

July 24. Arrived at Syracuse at 0700. Went in the harbour for about an hour陆. Done sweep outside until 7pm. Took empty troop ships back to Malta. Went to dusk action stations at 8-30 for an hour. All quiet during the night.
July 25. Kept morning. Arrived in Marsa Serroca at 7-30am. Went alongside oiler. Venomous came alongside us. Saw Son Cashman. Two battle ships in harbour. Left and proceeded to sea at 1330 waited for convoy of empty troopers. Got under way at 1500.

July 26. Cruising stations during the day. Kept first dog first and morning. All quiet during the night. Working part of ship during forenoon. Dropped one depth charge. Picked up five airmen on dinghy, adrift 9 days.

July 27. Working in the mess during the forenoon, weather lovely. Kept last dog in cruising. Went to defence at midnight. All quiet.

July 28. Kept forenoon watch in cruising very hot. Arrived in Alex at 6-15 with 2 ships, other five went to Port Said. Oiled. Leave to port watch from 7-45 until 0700. Didn鈥檛 go. Got two letters.

July 29. Working on the funnel during the forenoon. Black as a sweep. Make and mend. Leave to the stbd watch from 1-15 until 0700. Wrote letter home in afternoon. Duty part.

July 30. In harbour. Usual routine. All ships company went ashore to CanopusII as ship was being de-bugged. Arrived at Canopus about 11am. Had dinner, rum 2 in 1. Went ashore at 1-15. Went to pictures, came off at 12 midnight.

July 31. Stayed in camp until about 1230 had dinner also rum after. Went ashore at 1315. Went for a walk along the front. Had photo taken with Blondie. Went to the pictures also up the C. Club. Came off at midnight.

Aug 1. Went ashore at 1315 had breakfast also divisions at 9-30. went to St Francis church at 9-30. Came back at 1130, had dinner then went ashore. Had the usual run. Came off about 10-30.

Aug 2. Got kit ready and left Canopus at 9-30. Marched down to jetty, went aboard ship at 1030. Weighed anchor by deck tackle, as we had no steam. Didn鈥檛 go ashore.

Aug 3. Working part of ship also clearing up the mess and having a good scrub all around. Was watch aboard, had all night in.

Aug 4. Working part of ship as usual. Went to a buoy at 1030am. Weather fine. Had make and mend in the afternoon. Went ashore.

Aug 5. Usual harbour routine. Working part of ship painting the superstructure. Leave to the port watch from 1815 until 2230. All quiet during the night.

Aug 6. Working part of ship during the forenoon. Make and mend in afternoon. Was duty part.

Aug 7. In harbour usual routine working part of ship. Usual leave from 1315. All quiet during the night.

Aug 8. Sunday routine. Went to church at St. Frances. Came back at 1200. All quiet during the night.

Aug 19. Went to sea at 1200 with convoy of troopers and cargo ships, also six Hunts. Kept first dog in cruising stations. Went to defence at 8pm. Kept first and morning.

Aug 20. weather moderate. Kept afternoon last dog and middle.

Aug 21. Kept forenoon. First dog first and morning. Belvoir believed to have fired tin fish. Rocket fired at 2200. went to action stations.

Aug 22. Sea like a sheet of glass. Kept afternoon. D class cruiser joined convoy at 2-45. Easton sunk sub during the first. Went to Malta with Pindus damaged bows. Passed Pantallaria at 0145.

Aug 23. Off cape Bon at 0800 passed Bizerta at 11am. Weather calm. Passed over 50? Landing craft. Kept first and morning. Went to dusk action stations.

Aug 24. Kept afternoon. Cleaned into rig of the day. Arrived in Algiers at 2-45 oiled proceeded to sea at 5-45pm. Kept last dog in cruising. Joined convoy of troopers at 2200. Five destroyers.

Aug 25. Kept forenoon sea calm. Kept first dog first. Went to dusk action stations. Passed Cape Bon at 9-30pm. Passed oil burning east of Cape Bon.

Aug 26. Gozo in sight during forenoon. Three fleet boats joined at 1030. Left again before dusk with a trooper bound for Sicily. Went to dusk action stations.

Aug 27. Cruising stations during forenoon. Kept first dog. Went to defence at 8pm. Kept first. Passed convoy going west at 4-30 26 ships.

Aug 28. Kept morning. Broke into cruising at 0800. Working during the forenoon. Kept last dog. Passed convoy going east at 2-30. Kept middle. Done exercises. Night encounter.

Aug 29. Arrived in harbour at 7-15am. Oiled. Went 46 shed stores party. Came back at 1200 stopped aboard. Leave to port watch until 0700. All night in.

Aug 30. Working part of ship during forenoon. Got paid at 1200. Make and mend. Leave to stbd until 0700. Duty part.

Aug 31. Duty destroyer. Worked part of ship during forenoon. Stbd watch required at 1-15 until 2-30pm. Went to sea at 6pm on J patrol. Kept morning in cruising.

Sept 1. Arrived in harbour off patrol at 0800. Went to a buoy. Worked part of ship until 1030. Had immediate orders to proceed to sea at 11am. Oiled. Left harbour at 1230 speed 22 kts, picked up convoy 95 miles from Alex. Sub reported.

Sept 2. Arrived in harbour at 0700. went alongside oiler. Left again at 0930 ? Hunts. Done a H.A. shoot. Also small arms. Proceeded to do bombard. Went east of Mersa. Finished at 6pm then carried out Asdic sweep.

Sept 3. still doing Asdic sweep, going west. Kept afternoon in cruising. Had blue warning for 录 hr. Kept middle.

Sept 4. Working part of ship during forenoon. Passed Benghazi. Kept first dog. Done maneuvers at 4-30. Kept first and morning.

Sept 5. arrived in Tripoli at 1115 anchored. Duty destroyer. Went alongside oiler at 8pm. Stayed there overnight. All night in.

Sept 6. Shifted ship from oiler at 6-20 and anchored. Proceeded to sea with combined operation ships and sweepers at 1130. Kept first and morning. Destination Palermo in Sicily.

Sept 7. Working part of ship during forenoon, lower deck cleared at 1100, Captain told us what we were doing, going to invade Salerno. Biggest operation out hear. Zero hour 3-30. Sept 9am.

Sept 8. Arrived at Palermo at 0800. Went in the harbour and oiled, left at 1115. Picked up convoy at 3pm. Also three cruisers. Italy surrendered. Still carried out operation. Went to action stations. Opened fire on aircraft. Finished at 11pm. 14 miles from Italy.

Sept 9. Commandos (Salerno) landed at 3-30, heavy fighting going on in beaches. Troops landed soon after. Flares dropped at 5am. Opened up bombs dropped on stbd quarter very heavy fire. Guarding ships during the day. Took ships back.

Sept 10. Kept forenoon in cruising. Arrived in Bizerta at 3pm. Oiled. Italian destroyers came in. After oiling went outside and anchored. All night in.

Sept 11. Went ashore as store party had a look around town. Came back at 1100. Went to sea at 1030pm with troop ships destination Taranto. Kept middle.

Sept 12. Cook during forenoon. Kept first dog. Sighted Sicily in early afternoon. Weather lovely. Kept first. Sighted Italy at 1030.

Sept 13. Kept afternoon in defence stations. Arrived at Taranto at 4pm. Anchored. Red warning, nothing happened. Went to sea at 1030 with ships, destination Agusta.

Sept 14. Arrived in Agusta 6pm dropped anchor. Got stores from Rodney in the morning. All quiet during the night. Saw six subs in harbour.

Sept 15. Working part of ship during forenoon. Leave to stbd watch from 1-15 until 6pm. Ammunitioned ship in the afternoon, also oiled. Hoisted whaler. Went to sea with Pindus, 21 kts to Alex. Kept middle.

Sept 16. Cruising stations. Kept first dog first and morning. Weather calm.

Sept 17. Arrived in Alex at 2pm, went alongside oiler, went to buoy on completion of oiling. Went ashore at 4-15. Got paid. Went to the pictures at 6-30 saw Rio Rita. Slept at Canal.

Sept 18. Came aboard at 0800. Working on motorboat. Went ashore at 1-15. Went out to see O鈥橩eefe. Went up C.C. and met Cotter, also Fr. Donoughe. Went to pictures, saw Desperadoes. Slept ashore.

Sept 19. Went to mass at 9am. Came aboard at 1110 had dinner. Leave to stbd watch 1-15 until 2230. Done washing. Wrote letters home.

Sept 20. Working part of ship during forenoon on captured boat. Turned to in afternoon. Finished tob? off. Went swimming at 1510. Was required in rig of the day. At1600 went to sea with convoy of six ships.

Sept 21. Kept morning. Finished off job on boat. Kept last dog. Weather moderate. Kept middle.

Sept 22. Kept forenoon in cruising weather lovely. Kept first. Passed Benghazi. All quiet during the night. Destination Taranto in Italy. Disembark troops.

Sept 23. Kept morning. Broke into cruising at 7am, fell out. Cook of the mess during the forenoon. Kept afternoon in cruising, speed 13 kts. Kept part of the last dog in defence. Kept middle.

Sept 24. Arrived in Taranto at 8am. Went alongside oiling jetty, oiled, anchored later. Went to sea at 5pm. Took one troop ship back to Agusta, speed 7 kts, other ships went ahead of us.

Sept 25. Arrived at Agusta at 1130, went alongside oiling jetty. Leave to stbd watch until 1800. Went and anchored and went swimming at 2pm. Had all night in harbour.

Sept 26. Got underway at 8am took 8 troop ships, destination Algiers. Received signal at 1230 proceed to Malta boiler cleaning. Arrived at Malta at 4-30 went to a buoy. Leave to port watch. 2300. 4 battleships in harbour.

Sept 27. In Malta. Leave to stbd watch until 2300. painting ship during forenoon and afternoon. Duty part of watch. Had all night in.

Sept 28. Port watch turned out at 6-30 stood by wires. Went to breakfast at 7-15. Stbd watch took over, went to sea at 7-30. picked up big convoy, proceeding to Alex. Weather rough. Kept first dog first morning.

Sept 29. Kept morning broke into cruising at 6am. Rounding up ships in convoy. Clocks went on one hour at 8am. Kept last dog and middle.

Sept 30. Cruising stations during the day. Broke into defence at night. Kept first and morning.
