my dad was sent to malta about 1940,he saw the seige of malta, they did without food and milk for a long time as all the ships that came into the harbour at valletta where bombed, one4 ship got through but it was full of beer and cigarettes, which were great for those that smoked and drank but no good for the people of malta, if sold and airmeniers had any food spare they gave it to the children of the island. my dad was on the big guns, when it was quiet,as he could ride a motorbike he was sent around the island with messages. Unfortunetly on one occasion he was hit by a british army truck and was badly injured, he kneecap was crushed. He was taken to Valletta hospital, and eventually they managed to get a plane home for all the injured soldiers, seamenHe then went into the pay core at Manchester, after having some home leave,I was born 9 mths later. Whilst in the paycore he was verbally abused by many people as they thought he was a conscientios objector. he took to using his stick more often when out on the town, to prove he was injured. I hope this is of help for the archives
