This is the story of my Grandfather, James Metcalf, who was posted from Birmingham to RAF Coltishall. He came straight back to Coltishall from Dunkirk where he was with the British Expeditionary Force. He worked on the engines and was responsible for last minute safety checks as a flight technician. He remembered someone getting hypnotised by propeller blades, walking straight into them and getting killed.
Grandad was well respected and served for decades at RAF Coltishall. When he died the Jaguars flew past in his honour and there is a plaque and a blue ribbon round the tree where he first met my Grandmother. There was a Polish regiment stationed at Coltishall and I have a Polish Godfather.
