My name is David Osborne, and I have been searching for my brother, whom I have not seen since 1939.

I was born in Ryde, on the Isle of Wight on August 24th, 1927. My brother and I were evacuated in 1939, but my brother, John went to Ventnor (also on the Isle of Wight) and that was the last time I saw him.

After some investigation, I found out in 1984 that my brother and I were in fact twins, and that we were born at 10 Winton Street, Isle of Wight, which is now a car repair shop.

It is quite likely that my brother, like me, went into the armed forces. My brother lived at Forest House, Parkhurst, Newport, which was then a workhouse that closed in 1948. It is now St Mary’s Hospital.

My mother’s name was Ethel Osborne, and I last saw her in 1942. Should my parents still be alive, they will be well into their eighties by now.

All my searching has now reached a dead end — if there is anybody out there who can help me in my quest to find John, I would be most grateful.

After all, having a twin brother is something very special…
