This story was added to Peoples War by Olivia Cubberley in the 大象传媒 Open Centre with the kind permission of P Francis.
Pelwear Ltd, a Leicester Tailoring Company, was situated in Dial Square (still there!!). I helped make flying suits for the RAF - these were wired to plug in when the lads were flying and fighting!. I wonder if any of the lads found the messages we tucked under the size labels? (I found similar German flying suits many years after, in a museum in Southampton).
Then we made Tank Jackets - in a camouflaged material, with big pockets..."Jungle Jerseys" had shoulder patches, sewn on with dark green cotton.
We made Demob macs for when the lads came home, to a great welcome.
Margaret's granny made us delicious cinder toffees, and Mu's mam, Mirrie, made "nutty flip" for her "nutty flappers"...a wonderful gang....
