I was born in Pullman Road in 1918.
I was married on September 20th 1941 - we had a nice reception but no real cake as there was no dried fruit to make it.
I was married at the congregational church in Wigston and had a really nice white wedding with 6 bridesmaids.
We had Co-Op cateries to do the wedding.
My husband was a skilled engineer involved in making radar instruments for the Van Guard. He was a tool maker at Charnwood Engineering, Abbey Lane in Leicester.
We bought our first house for 拢575.00.
We were worried about the bombing but the Government would have helped with repairs if we were hit.
One bad day I remember from the war was not long after the war had started when I went to the Odeon Cinema with a friend in Leicester. It was day time and while we were in the cinema, air raid sirens sounded and we were told we could either stay and watch the film or leave the cinema. As we left we saw King Street in Leicester on fire and we started to make our way back to Wigston climbing over hose pipes - a day light bombing.
We tried to get back to Wigston but eventually ended up spending the night in an air raid shelter in Aylestone.
My husband later told me that the bombs were meant for Coventry but they bombed Leicester by mistake.
We later learnt that six houses were destroyed on Abbey Lane in Leicester.
During the war I worked in the engineering at Premier Drum making air craft parts.
