During the war, there wasn鈥檛 many places you could go. You could go to the pictures, and it even opened on a Sunday so the war workers could go. I used to go to the Rialto by Princes Park, the Odeon in town, the Futurist in town and the Scala; there was quite a number. We鈥檇 also go to the occasional dances at the Arrowe Park ball Room, I worked in Bootle with a lot of girls, but lived in Toxteth, I travelled over there to do my socialising. I was an accounting machine operator calculating wages, dealing in coinage, pennies, shillings and so on all worked out.
We had the day of when it was VE day, I went on the tram to Bootle to see the girls I worked with and we ended up in Derby Park, I stayed all night with one of the girls I worked with. There was dancing, singing, it was very packed, there was a lot of pushing and shoving; it was very lively.
