This story and photograph have been submitted to the WW2 People's War Website by the London Borough of Harrow Housebound Library Service on behalf of Mrs Joyce Allwright, and has been added with her permission.

During the darkest days of World War 2, when Gordon Allwright was held captive in Stalag Luft 3, he and his fellow POWs were ingenious enough to put on a variety of stage shows and plays, and amazingly they managed to obtain some fantastic costumes. Here they are performing in "The Merchant of Venice" by William Shakespeare.
