Once again they鈥檙e celebrating VE and VJ days, with their parties in my town. There were none for VE day, the British Legion of Worksop did have a buffet with drinks supplied by our Council but the war widows were not invited to this function, are the war widows still to be thought of as a second class citizen?
I believe it鈥檚 hypocritical when the British Legion go to the Cenotaph to pay a homage to their fallen comrades, when those comrades wives and small children were left to fend for themselves, this is how I see the ravages of the war but the British Legion did nothing for the widows of my town.
When I ask the old war heroes if they looked after the widows and their children they reply that they were very well looked after, so then I inform them that this was not the case and that I am a war widows son and that the Legion never did anything for us.
