This incident would never have taken place if there wasn't a war on at the time. My father was in the R.A.F. Mum had three 00children the previous year one had died. One day there was a knock on the door, a policeman stood there with a piece of material in his hand and said "is this your little girl's dress material" which it was. She was told a dispatch rider was speeding with an urgent message he had lost control and crashed into my sister who was playing on the grass verge. She died. When my mother went to the inquest the motorcyclist was there with his arm bandaged, he was so upset, but it was an accident. My mother fouund out after that he was himself eventually killed in the war. Such a sad time.
Our parents' generation had such a hard time in the war, some had lived through one war, then the depression in the 30's then another war. They never complained, our life is so much easier.
