My Aunt had recieved a telegram to say her husband Alex Sutton had been lost at sea following the sinking of his ship HMS Sikh atTobruk where according to the Daily Express she fought to the last trying to protect other ships. This was referred by the editoral as, The British Destroyer Sikh which is at the moment writing the last lines in the most gallant pages in the long and proud history of the Navy. This was on Friday September 18th 1942. Then on the 5th November 1942 she was travelling on a bus from Gillingham high street to the Strand, she stood up to get off the bus when a coin rolled to her feet it was one Italian lira which she picked up. On the 6th November she recieved a telegram to say that he was infact safe and in an Italian Prisoner of War camp. When the war finally ended and he came home to live a long and happy life with his wife Marjorie, sadly he died before her but after her death I looked for the coin which was always kept on the mantlepiece to go with the rest of her war memories but it had gone! where we will never know but at least this story has a happy ending
