(8 years old 1939) Haddington (East Lothian — Scotland)
One Saturday morning stood outside the house — I heard the noise of an aeroplane — I looked towards the hills and saw the plane flying North. Immediately two or three spitfires flew over my head from East Barnes nr N Berwick.
The spitfire in the middle of the formation dropped down, and the two others split to either side — the one that went down came up underneath the plane and shot him down. He crashed landed on the land — A Shepard went to the crashed plane with a gun and two crew from the German plane surrendered — the army then came and took them away.
On a later visit to Haddington (East Lothian — Scotland) I was talking to my pal and he was saying there had been some German visitors looking for the crash site and trying to find out the whereabouts of the plane.
