This is a true story about my Dad.
My Dad was stationed in Napoli in Italy. The war had just ended and my Dad and his regiment were called together by commanding officers, who told them that he was making arrangements for them to go home.
The next day the commanding officers called them together again to say "sorry lads I have not been able to get you home" but by way of compensation I have managed to wangle it to get 2 weeks in a museum in Sorrento, using a local hotel for meals. After that, Dad came home from the war.
My Dad did not like holidays abroad as he hated flying, so all family holidays were spent in the UK.
Unknown to my Dad, my Mum had booked a surpise holiday for his 70th Birthday and of course a hotel was picked in Sorrento.
On arriving at the Hotel and unpacking, he walked over to the balcony and simply said "Muriel you won't believe this, I have been here before" and sure enough this was the hotel that he and his regiment had their meals in nearly 45 years ago!
